Dr. Amanda Hsieh is an Associate Professor of Musicology at the Department of Music, Durham University. Her research bridges musicology, political history, and gender studies, focusing on the interplay between Western art music and geopolitical dynamics in historical contexts.

- Affiliated with Durham’s Project Spectrum (EDI in music studies) and co-founder of the Asian-German Studies in Music Working Group
Her research explores transnational musical exchanges, including projects on the Japanese Empire’s adoption of German art music, East-West operatic interactions, and music’s role in fascist diplomacy. She employs archival analysis, global history frameworks, and biographical methods.
