Her work bridges political theory and social policy, exploring how welfare reforms affect vulnerable groups. Key themes include the moral justifications of behavioral conditionality, trauma-informed approaches to social security, and the ethical implications of market-driven policies. Recent studies have examined veterans’ experiences with the UK welfare system and the application of trauma theory to policy design.
Curchin’s collaborative networks span Australia and internationally, including the Social Security Research Policy and Practice Network and the International Trauma-Informed Care Network. Her research has informed policy debates on drug testing welfare recipients, hybrid economies in Indigenous contexts, and the role of big data in social policy.
