Katherine Baker

Dr. Katherine Baker is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Art History at Arkansas State University's College of Liberal Arts and Communication. Her research focuses on late medieval and early modern Parisian art, particularly ivory carving, archival documents, and material culture. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia (2013) and has conducted research at the Institut national d'histoire de l'art in Paris through Kress and chercheure accueilli fellowships.

Her work emphasizes archival analysis of lost artistic production, notably the estate inventory of 16th-century Parisian tabletier Chicart Bailly, detailed in her 2023 monograph. She explores topics such as Parisian craftsmanship, board game fabrication, and memento mori motifs through interdisciplinary approaches.

Baker's publications span Brill, Boydell & Brewer, and The Courtauld Institute, with articles addressing missing artworks, material culture, and collaborative artistry. Her current research continues examining Chicart Bailly's legacy and early modern artisan networks.
