Kath Watson

Kath Watson is a Pharmacovigilance Studies Manager at the University of Manchester's Division of Musculoskeletal & Dermatological Sciences. She holds a PhD in epidemiology (2002) alongside MMedSci and BSc qualifications. Her research focuses on long-term safety of biologics for inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and lupus. She leads the Biologic Studies Group, conducting real-world drug safety studies.

Key projects include the British Society for Rheumatology Rheumatoid Arthritis Register (BSRBR-RA) and the UK JIA Biologics Registers. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing healthcare quality and innovation. Recent publications analyze corticosteroid use in severe COVID-19, biosimilar drug efficacy, and regulatory impacts on prescribing practices.

Collaborations span international teams, with notable contributions to clinical trials like the RECOVERY trial. She has advised on drug safety protocols and biosimilar substitution strategies, emphasizing cost-control and patient outcomes.
