Dr. Kate Martin is a Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), where she also serves as Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and Designated Institutional Official (DIO). She is a board-certified family physician with over two decades of leadership in academic medicine, dedicated to building inclusive, community-responsive medical education programs and improving healthcare for underserved populations.
Her research and professional interests focus on advancing health equity for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), integrating human-centered design into medical education, and enhancing care coordination through innovative models. She has pioneered initiatives such as the Clinical Health Assessment & Promotion Program (CHaPP) and has contributed to national conversations on inclusive medical training.
Dr. Martin has secured over $8 million in grant funding to expand residency and fellowship programs in areas including hematology/oncology, rheumatology, geriatrics, forensic psychiatry, and critical care medicine. She chairs the Graduate Medical Education Committee and advises curricular innovation at UNLV.

She is a dedicated mentor to medical students, residents, and junior faculty engaged in community-based scholarship and service. Her leadership extends to national and regional presentations on inclusive education and health promotion. Dr. Martin also teaches the undergraduate seminar 'Healthcare reDesign' in UNLV’s Honors College, blending medicine, education, and design thinking.
She leads and contributes to interprofessional teams focused on transformative healthcare delivery and has developed policy efforts and clinical programs that bridge academic medicine with community needs, particularly for aging adults with disabilities.
