Dr Kate Lewis serves as Senior Lecturer in Music and Programme Lead for Music at Brunel University London within the Department of Theatre, Music and Film/TV (School of Arts and Humanities). A multi-genre guitarist, she performs extensively as a classical soloist, chamber musician, and in alternative rock/pop scenes across the US and Europe.

Her research examines guitar performance in popular and art music with critical focus on gender dynamics, presented at international conferences throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. She investigates intersections between instrumental practice, genre conventions, and sociocultural identity.
Kate supervises PhD candidates and final-year undergraduate projects (MU3617), teaching core curriculum including Ways of Hearing, Materials of Music, Ensemble, and Professional Development courses across all undergraduate levels.
She actively performs with ensembles Out Strung Duo and Critical Mass Duo, and has recorded with alternative rock/pop bands, demonstrating applied integration of her research interests in performance contexts.
