Prof. Kate Henne is the Director of the ANU School of Regulation & Global Governance (RegNet) and leads the Justice and Technoscience Lab (JusTech). She previously held a Canada Research Chair at the University of Waterloo and was a Fellow at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Her expertise spans science and technology’s role in governance of health, public safety, and social welfare. She serves on leadership teams for ANU’s Integrated AI Network and the Agrifood Innovation Institute.
Education:
- PhD in Criminology, Law and Society, University of California at Irvine (2011)
- Graduate Certificates in Feminist Studies and Anthropologies of Medicine/Science/Technology (2011)
- Masters in Kinesiology (2009) and Social Ecology (2007)
Research Interests: Focuses on intersections of crime, health equity, regulation, and tech governance. Recent work examines AI in policing, gender inclusion in sports, and pandemic-era governance.
Grants/Projects:
- HERknee CRE: Preventing knee injury and osteoarthritis in women/girls (2024-2029)
- Governance for Gender Inclusion in Australian Sport (2022-2025)
Labs/Teams: Leads JusTech Lab and collaborates with ANU’s AI Network. External roles include Board Member at the Sir Roland Wilson Foundation and advisor to the Australian Institute of Sport’s Female Performance & Health Initiative.
