Kate Chesebrough

Kate Chesebrough is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), teaching in the Department of Landscape Architecture. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from Cornell University and is licensed in New York State. Her work bridges design, ecology, and community engagement through research on urban forestry, tree dynamics, and public space.

Her research focuses on native tree systems and youth-led urban forestry initiatives in informal settlements, notably in Nairobi, Kenya. She advocates for context-sensitive design addressing ecological, cultural, and social dimensions through hybrid analog/digital methods. Presented at the 2023 World Forum on Urban Forestry and 2024 Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture.

Previously a project manager at a landscape architecture firm in Ithaca, NY, she led urban design projects involving green infrastructure, zoning, and community engagement. Maintains consulting work while advocating for public art through initiatives like the Red Cup Project.

Active in academic critique, NY-Upstate ASLA, and US-El Salvador Sister Cities programs. A gardener and lifelong Upstate NY resident.
