Dr. Kate Bezanson is a Professor of Sociology and Associate Dean in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Brock University. She holds an LLM in Constitutional Law from Osgoode Hall, and PhD, MA, and BA degrees in Sociology from York and Trent Universities. Her research focuses on political economy, social policy, constitutional law, gender, and federalism, with a particular emphasis on childcare, social reproduction, and gender equity.
Dr. Bezanson is co-investigator on a SSHRC-funded grant examining policy mixes for Canadian families and serves as a consulting editor for the Canadian Review of Sociology. She has held leadership roles including University Senator and Chair of the Senate Student Appeals Board. Her policy work bridges academia and practice, addressing issues like childcare infrastructure, taxation, and economic recovery post-pandemic. She is currently on secondment as a special advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada.
Her scholarship spans journal articles, book chapters, and policy briefs, advocating for systemic care-sector investments and gender-responsive policies. Media engagements include analysis in the Globe and Mail, New York Times, and CBC.
