Kashi Gomez is an Assistant Professor and Lecturer in Sanskrit at the University of Pennsylvania's Department of South Asia Studies. She holds office hours Wednesday (2:00-3:00 p.m.) and Thursday (12:30-1:30 p.m.) in 805 Williams Hall.
- Education: Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. from University of California, Berkeley
Research Interests focus on South Asia's history of Sanskrit literary production, gender dynamics, and early modernity. Her current book project, "Sanskrit Co-wives: Making Ideologies of Gender and Desire in Eighteenth-Century Tanjavur", analyzes Brahminical ideological frameworks around gender and sexuality in Maratha-ruled Tanjavur (1676-1735).
Publications include: "Sanskrit and the Labour of Gender in Early Modern South India" (Modern Asian Studies, 2022).
