Dr. Karsten Giese is a Senior Research Fellow and Editor of GIGA Focus Asien at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA). His research focuses on Chinese-African relations, globalization impacts, and transnational social dynamics. He holds affiliations with the Association for Social Science Research on China (since 2001) and the German Association for Asian Studies (since 2000). His work examines Chinese traders' roles in West Africa, social innovation, and ethnic integration processes. Recent engagements include panel discussions on pandemic governance in China, migrant transnationalism research, and post-pandemic Asian economic recovery strategies. He taught at the University of Nottingham in 2014 on topics of Chinese diasporic communities.
