Karolina Follis

Professor Karolina Follis is a SFHEA Professor in Politics and Society at Lancaster University's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). Her work centers on borders, citizenship, and human rights within Europe and beyond, particularly focusing on migrant rights, securitization, and healthcare entitlements. She leads a Wellcome Trust-funded initiative, Doctors within Borders, and has conducted fieldwork in Poland and Ukraine. Current teaching contributions include POLI.100 and PPR.366 (Conspiracy Theories in Politics and Society), though some courses are temporarily unavailable.

Her research interests span Eastern/Central European politics, debates on liberal democracy, EU policies, and memory politics. Notable projects include studies on Poland’s rejection of refugees and Mediterranean border surveillance. She is affiliated with the CILHR (Centre for International Law and Human Rights), Migrancy Research Group, and Security Lancaster initiatives.

Professor Follis actively supervises PhD students Ozum Dagdelen and Biobele Danagogo. Her grants include Wellcome Trust funding (2019–2021) for cross-border healthcare research. Ongoing work since 2013 involves analyzing human rights and boundaries in migration contexts. Professional activities include participation in conferences like the ASEEES Convention and workshops on maritime migration and EU sustainability.
