Karl Ove Moene

Karl Ove Moene is a Professor of Economics at the University of Oslo since 1987. He has held visiting positions at Stanford University, University of California Los Angeles, and Northwestern University. Since 2007, he has led the Centre of Equality, Social Organization and Performance (ESOP) at the University of Oslo, which he initiated.

His research spans labour economics, income distribution, and political economy, with applications to the welfare state and developing countries. He also focuses on political and economic institutions, crime and corruption, and Scandinavian models.

Scientific awards include:

• 2011 Prize for outstanding popular communication of research by the Norwegian Research Council

He served as editor of the Scandinavian Journal of Economics (1992-99) and contributes to understanding equality, social organization, and performance through his leadership at ESOP.
