Karl Kohut

Karl Kohut is an Assistant Professor at the Desautels Faculty of Music, University of Manitoba, specializing in Jazz Bass education and performance. He holds a BMus and MMus (Performance) from the University of Manitoba and an MMus (Jazz Studies) from The Juilliard School.

Known for his expertise in both upright and electric bass, Kohut has performed globally with award-winning artists and professional organizations. His research focuses on jazz transcription analysis and performance techniques.

Performance highlights include collaborations with Wynton Marsalis, George Colligan, and international tours with Joe Doubleday & Felix Peikli’s Showtime Band. He actively contributes to local and international jazz scenes through recordings and ensemble leadership.
