Dr. Karina Rune is a full-time Lecturer in Psychology at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC), affiliated with the School of Health and Department of Psychology. She holds a PhD from UniSC, a BSoSc (Psych) (Hons) from UniSC, and an MA in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Edinburgh. Her academic rank is Lecturer, with a focus on cognitive psychology and clinical psychology. She serves as Course Coordinator for Introduction to Psychology A & B courses, implementing flipped classroom models, and leads Blended Learning initiatives for the School of Social Sciences.
Her research explores attention bias in eating disorders and chronic pain, with projects involving the Butterfly Foundation and BTC Australia. She also investigates road safety and situational awareness in ambulance drivers. Current projects include adjunct treatments for eating disorders and brain stimulation therapies. Dr. Rune is completing a Master of Clinical Psychology and is a provisional psychologist registered with APHRA.
Key awards include the Rotary Postgraduate Scholarship (2014), USC Research Scholarship (2014), and nominations for USC Advance Awards (2016). She is affiliated with the Australian Psychological Society and AHPRA. Her teaching innovations emphasize student-centered learning and technology integration, informed by her experience as a mature-aged student.
