Karen Rader is a Professor in the Department of History at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), specializing in the history of science with a focus on Science, Technology, and Society (STS). Her research examines the intersections between U.S. science and social/cultural institutions, particularly in the 20th century. She has authored Making Mice (Princeton UP, 2004) and co-authored Life on Display (Chicago, 2014), and co-edited the Journal of the History of Biology (2018–2022). Rader has secured grants from NSF, ACLS, and the Mellon Foundation, and her recent work explores postwar U.S. adult informal science education.
