Kara Winton

Kara Winton is an Instructor II in the Department of Communication & Philosophy at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), College of Arts & Sciences. She transitioned to academia after a 25-year career in journalism and public relations. Previously, she worked as a reporter for The News-Press, Public Information Officer for the Fort Myers Police Department, and account manager at Priority Marketing. She holds an MA in Adult Education from Indiana University with a focus on public relations.

Her professional credentials include APR and CPRC honors. As leader in the Southwest Florida Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association, she has mentored over 30 professionals in achieving APR/CPRC certifications over 10 years.
