Kaja Schelker is a Research Associate at the Leibniz-GWZO (Leibniz Institute of European History) within the junior research group 'East Central Europe in Comparison.' She holds a Dipl.-Ing. Arch. (Master's degree in Architecture) from the Universities of Stuttgart and Porto (2003–2009). Her career includes architectural practice in Graubünden (2009–2013), research at the University of Stuttgart's Institute for Lightweight Structures (2013–2020), and doctoral studies in Art History at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich under Prof. Burcu Dogramaci (since 2017).
Her research focuses on post-war architecture from transnational and regional perspectives, national architectural styles, lightweight construction's intersection with utopian and technical innovation, and sustainability discourse. Current projects include studying Zakopane's architectural culture comparatively.
Teaching: Delivered courses at the University of Stuttgart's Institute for Lightweight Design and Construction for architecture and civil engineering students (2013–2020).
Awards: 2018 scholarship from the German Historical Institute in Warsaw. Professional membership: Bavarian Chamber of Architects (since 2014).
