Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Ing. Angelika Schnell is a Professor in Architectural Theory, Architectural History, and Design at the History | Theory | Criticism (HTC) platform of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. She holds a doctorate from the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, where her research focused on Aldo Rossi’s theoretical work. Before joining Vienna in 2009, she taught at institutions including TU Berlin, TU Delft, and the University of Innsbruck. She has been editor of ARCH + (Berlin/Aachen) and co-editor of Bauwelt Fundamente since 2015, and contributes to Candide (RWTH Aachen).
Her research emphasizes the theoretical interplay between architecture and urban development in the 19th–20th centuries, critiques of modernism, design methodologies, and interdisciplinary approaches. She oversees master’s theses and doctoral seminars, including courses like Architecture History II and Writing about Architecture. Her academic trajectory reflects deep engagement with both historical and contemporary architectural discourse.
