Justin R Hall is an Associate Professor in the Graduate Comics Program at California College of the Arts (CCA). His work focuses on LGBTQ+ comics, queer horror, and historical narratives, with notable publications including the Lambda Literary Award-winning anthology No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics (2012) and the documentary film No Straight Lines: The Rise of Queer Comics (2021). He has curated major museum exhibitions, such as the first LGBTQ+ comics show at the SF Cartoon Art Museum, and co-edited Theater of Terror: Revenge of the Queers. His Marching Toward Pride poster series (2020) commemorates San Francisco’s LGBTQ+ history.
Hall is a Fulbright Scholar, co-organizer of the Queers & Comics Conference, and serves on the boards of Prism Comics and Siewphewyeung/Our Books. His research spans queer cultural history, erotic comics, and global artistic collaborations. He has taught internationally and contributed to academic works like the Routledge Companion to Comics and Cambridge History of the Graphic Novel.
