Justin Mellette is an Associate Teaching Professor in English at Northeastern University's College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH). He holds a PhD in English from Penn State University. His research focuses on African American and American literature, music, comics/graphic novels, and business/professional writing, with a particular emphasis on racial anxiety in Southern literature and cultural studies.
Dr. Mellette teaches courses such as First-Year Writing and Advanced Writing in the Business Professions. His monograph Peculiar Whiteness: Racial Anxiety and Poor Whites in Southern Literature, 1900-1965 (2021) explores intersections of race, class, and literature. His publications span topics like Faulkner's Snopes Trilogy, CLR James' analysis of sport, and the aesthetics of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman.
