Justin Life

Justin Life is a Boston-based artist and educator. He serves as a Part-Time Lecturer at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, where he teaches BA and BS students on the Medford Campus. His work has been exhibited at venues such as the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and Fountain Street Gallery.

• Education: MFA from SMFA at Tufts University (2007), BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (2002).
• Teaching Experience: SMFA at Tufts University (2008–Present), Museum of Fine Arts Boston (2008–Present), Boston Architectural College (2006–2008).

His artwork transforms photographs of wooded landscapes into mandala-like scratchboard drawings and mixed-media paintings, exploring connections between fractal patterns in nature and the universe, alongside Baroque figurative painting techniques. He has also taught workshops on figure drawing, watercolor, and experimental drawing.

• Awards: Joan Mitchell Scholarship Finalist (2007), Graduate Teaching Fellowship at SMFA Boston (2006–2008).

Justin maintains an active blog showcasing his process, including recent works in watercolor, ink pens, and colored pencils. He resides and works in Boston, Massachusetts.
