Justin L. Mann is an Assistant Professor of English at Northwestern University and a member of the graduate faculty. His research focuses on African American literature, speculative fiction, black feminist theory, and security studies. He holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from George Washington University.
His current project, “Breaking the World: Blackness and Insecurity after the New World Order,” examines intersections between speculative fiction and security policy, analyzing works by authors like Octavia Butler and N.K. Jemisin alongside U.S. security practices since the Reagan era. His work has been published in Feminist Theory, Feminist Studies, and Surveillance & Society, and supported by the Huntington Library.
Dr. Mann teaches courses in literature, critical theory, and interdisciplinary studies. His office is located in University Hall 326, with regular office hours on Mondays and Thursdays.
