Jun Kim is an Associate Professor of Instrumental Conducting and Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), leading the Symphony Orchestra and University Community Orchestra. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, an Artist Diploma from the same institution, and degrees from Indiana University and the Peabody Institute.
His career spans collaborations with renowned orchestras such as the Moscow Symphony, Moravian Philharmonic, and Berlin Sinfonietta. He has won major international conducting competitions including the Orquesta de Córdoba (2013) and American Prize in Opera Conducting (2015). Additionally, he serves as Artistic Director/Conductor of the Washington Chamber Orchestra in D.C.
Kim’s research and performance interests focus on orchestral conducting, opera production, and chamber music. He has worked under esteemed mentors like Maestro Kurt Masur and collaborates with top artists such as pianist Mikhail Petukhov and violinist Rachel Barton Pine. His violin performances and masterclasses further highlight his dual expertise as a performer and educator.
Notable honors include the Beethoven Conducting Prize (2018), participation in the St. Magnus Festival (UK), and leadership in festivals like the Oregon Bach Festival. His teaching spans university conducting programs and competitions, including jury roles in prestigious events.
