Julius Carlson

Julius Carlson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Music, specializing in the intersection of music with the political histories of 20th-century Argentina and 19th-century Prussia. He is also a classical guitarist and active contributor to the Los Angeles music scene.

His research focuses on historical and political contexts of music, supported by prestigious grants including Fulbright-Hays and DAAD. He has performed internationally and contributed to award-winning recordings, such as the 2016 Chilean Pulsar-winning album Tenemos las mismas manos.

Julius co-founded the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra, advocating for underserved youth, and regularly lectures at the Le Salon de Musiques chamber music series. His work bridges academic research, performance, and community engagement.
