Julio Medina

Julio Medina is an Assistant Professor of Dance at Emory University, returning to the institution after teaching at California State University, Long Beach. His work bridges hip-hop, modern dance, and interdisciplinary performance. Medina holds an MFA from UCLA and a BA from Emory as a QuestBridge Scholar.

Research focuses on hypermasculinity, gender/sexuality studies, and reclaiming ancestral heritage through choreography. His solo I Gotta toured internationally in 2018. Medina's teaching philosophy integrates Knowledge of Self and Freire's Pedagogy of the Oppressed to create inclusive learning environments.
