Julie Fish

Professor Julie Fish is the Chair in Social Work & Health Inequalities at De Montfort University's Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, School of Applied Social Sciences. She directs the Centre for LGBTQ Research and co-leads the Institute of Health, Health Policy & Social Care. Her work focuses on LGBT health inequalities, qualitative research methods, and public/patient involvement.

Her research spans health equity in LGBTQ+ communities, minority stress, identity disclosure in healthcare, and intersectional analysis of BAME LGBTQ+ populations. Articles emphasize cancer care, aging, and healthcare guidelines for LGBTQ+ individuals. She leads funded projects with Macmillan Cancer Support, ESRC, and National Cancer Action Team.

Julie Fish has supervised PhD students including Carlton Howson, Hannah Begum, Wendy Norton, and Mike Ogunussi. She contributes to policy documents, international conferences, and grant panels like the ESRC peer review college. Her lab, the Centre for LGBTQ Research, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration on identity and healthcare.
