Julia Richers

Prof. Julia Richers is a Full Professor of Modern General and Eastern European History at the University of Bern's Institute of History. Her research focuses on Russian/Soviet history, Cold War dynamics, Jewish communities in Eastern Europe, and spatial/visual cultural studies. She leads major projects like 'Picture book of communism' analyzing Soviet postcards and 'Carpatho-Ukraine' historical analysis.

Her recent work includes the 2015 publication Zimmerwald und Kiental, examining World War I peace conferences in Swiss villages. She has conducted extensive media engagements with BBC News and SRF Zeitblende about Cold War history's local impacts.

Current research projects explore cultural memory in socialist sites and transnational Jewish Budapest studies. She maintains active collaborations through exhibitions and international conferences on memory politics and spatial theories.
