Julene Abad Del Vecchio is a Lecturer in Classical Literature and Culture at the University of Manchester, her alma mater. She holds a PhD from the University of Manchester (2019) and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her research focuses on 1st-century Latin literature, particularly the poetry of Statius, with a monograph The Dark Side of Statius' Achilleid: Epic Distorted (OUP, 2024) exploring tragic themes in his epic poetry. She has also contributed to studies on ancient epistolography, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, and the reception of classical literature in Spanish Golden Age drama.
Dr. Del Vecchio has held roles as a Postdoctoral Research Associate on the Ancient Letter Collections Project (Durham/Glasgow/Manchester) and previously taught at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (2022–2023). She teaches courses on Latin literature, including Ekphrasis in Latin Texts and Grief and Loss: Coping with the Romans, alongside Homer’s Odyssey. Her work engages with interdisciplinary approaches, blending textual analysis with cultural and historical contexts.
Her recent projects include articles on Egypt in Imperial Latin literature, dynamics of marginality in Neronian texts, and the Aldine Edition of Greek epistolographers. She co-edited a Bulletin of the John Rylands Library special issue on early modern printing and collaborates on initiatives like the Ancient Letter Collections Project. Her research bridges classical antiquity with modern scholarship, emphasizing reception and textual interpretation.
