Juha Pakkala is a Senior University Lecturer in Biblical Studies and Hebrew Bible at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Theology. His academic career includes roles such as EURYI researcher (2007–2012) and leadership of the Finnish Academy-funded Changes in Texts and Traditions Center of Excellence (2014–2019). He holds a Docentship in Hebrew Bible (2005) and a Habilitation in Hebrew Bible from the University of Munich (2005).
His research focuses on editorial processes of the Hebrew Bible, methodologies of biblical studies, and correlations between textual and archaeological evidence. Key projects include the Kinneret excavations and studies on Deuteronomy, the Deuteronomistic History, and ancient Israelite religion.
