Judith Smith

Judith Smith is a Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Health Services Management Centre (HSMC), University of Birmingham. She previously served as Director of HSMC (2015–2022) and Director of Policy at the Nuffield Trust (London). Her research focuses on bridging research, management, and practice in healthcare, particularly in primary/integrated care, health purchasing, and organizational governance. She co-directs the NIHR-funded BRACE rapid evaluation centre and leads Health Services Research for Birmingham Health Partners. Additionally, she is a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Health Foundation and a Senior Associate at the Nuffield Trust.

Her roles include strategic leadership in healthcare research and policy, with a focus on evaluating innovative care models and strengthening health systems. She contributes to national and international discussions on healthcare management and policy translation.
