Judith Philippa Franke

Judith Philippa Franke serves as a Senior Artist in the Master's program 'Applied Theatre. Artistic Theatre Practice & Society' at the Thomas Bernhard Institute of Mozarteum University Salzburg since 2020. She is a theatre and performance maker, cultural mediator, manager, and dramaturge with extensive professional experience in the performing arts field.

Her educational background includes Performing Arts (BA, University of Hildesheim), Puppetry and Directing (University of Exeter), and Performing Research (MA, Ruhr University Bochum). Starting in 2023, she is deepening her performative research on feminist walking in urban space through the inter-university doctoral program Science & Art, a collaboration between Mozarteum University Salzburg and Paris Lodron University Salzburg.

Dr. Franke's research interests focus on artistic and activist work in theatre for young audiences, interventions in urban spaces, and the development of cooperative and participatory formats. Her practice combines theoretical research with practical artistic implementation, particularly through her work with the group das_explorativ, which she co-founded in 2018.

Judith Franke has received notable recognition including the Christoph Schlingensief Fellowship from Kunststiftung NRW / Ruhr University Bochum in 2019. Her professional trajectory includes significant work as a theatre educator at Staatstheater Karlsruhe/Junges Staatstheater Karlsruhe (2014-2016 seasons) and freelance work in theater for young audiences since 2012 with various prominent theater institutions across Germany.

Her professional experience spans production assistance and management for prestigious organizations including Burg Hülshoff – Centre for Literature, werkgruppe2, FIDENA, marrow productions, theatre with teeth, and Gütesiegel*Kultur / PUNCH AGATHE from 2013 to 2020.
