Judith Coe is an Assistant Professor of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in Practice at the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Birmingham. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Exeter, a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from the University of Southampton, and an MSc in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath. Her professional experience includes significant contributions to high-performance sports and the performing arts.
Her research interests are centered on improving health and performance across diverse populations, particularly elite athletes and performing artists. Key areas include sports injury prevention, managing athletes during Olympic cycles, and resilience in performing arts. She applies narrative qualitative research methods to explore well-being and performance enhancement, bridging clinical practice with academic inquiry.
Judith has extensive practical experience, having served as a physiotherapist for numerous high-performance sports teams and multi-sport games. She was previously employed at the English Institute of Sport and transitioned into the performing arts as Head Company Physio for Birmingham Royal Ballet, while also serving as a contractor for The Royal Ballet in London, British Gymnastics, British Horseracing, and Great Britain Hockey.
She has taught as a Teaching Fellow in the MSc Sports Medicine programme at Bath University and in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham (2021–2022). Currently, she is completing a Professional Doctorate focused on resilience within the performing arts, further deepening her expertise in this niche domain.
Judith's affiliations include professional memberships with AACP and ACPSEM, and she is registered with CSP and HCPC. Her work reflects a strong integration of clinical practice, academic teaching, and applied research across sports and performing arts medicine.
