Joy Johnson

Dr. Joy Johnson is Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University, concurrently serving as the university's President and Vice-Chancellor. Her research examines health promotion and behavior change, with emphasis on how social, structural, and individual factors influence substance use and mental health outcomes. She leads innovative knowledge translation initiatives, including film-based educational resources about cannabis use for youth.

Johnson's work specifically addresses gender differences in substance use patterns and mental health service utilization. She previously directed the Institute of Gender and Health at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, advancing sex- and gender-based analysis in health research.
