Professor Joy Conway is an Independent Governor at the AECC University College (now Health Sciences University) since October 2022, serving on the People & Place Committee. She holds a Professorship in Respiratory Sciences at Brunel University London, where she co-directs the Smart Technology Advancements for Health and Rehabilitation research centre and leads the Applied Respiratory Research Group. Additionally, she serves as the national research lead for advancing clinical practice at Health Education England and maintains visiting professorships at the NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre (Respiratory and Critical Care) and the University of Winchester.
Her academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Southampton investigating 3D lung imaging techniques and aerosol deposition patterns, alongside a Master's in Rehabilitation and a chartered physiotherapist qualification. With over 25 years in higher education, she progressed to a personal Chair at the University of Southampton in 2009 before moving to Brunel in 2019.
Research interests focus on lung disease mechanisms, respiratory physiology/pathophysiology, and translational imaging technologies to improve treatment efficacy. Her work bridges clinical practice and academic innovation, particularly in respiratory rehabilitation and imaging-guided therapies.
