Dr. Joshua S. Haynes is an Assistant Professor of Native North American History at Sam Houston State University (SHSU). He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Georgia (2013), an M.A. in Southern Studies from the University of Mississippi (2001), and a B.A. in History from Tulane University (1998). His research focuses on interethnic violence, state formation in indigenous societies, and digital mapping applications. He previously taught at McKendree University and the University of Southern Mississippi.
Dr. Haynes authored Patrolling the Border: Theft and Violence on the Creek-Georgia Frontier, 1770–1806 (2018) and contributed to an edited volume on prisoners of war in U.S. history. His work examines borderlands dynamics, captivity, and colonial conflicts. He also appeared as a historical consultant on TLC’s Who Do You Think You Are? (2013).
