Joshua Braver

Joshua Braver is an Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Wisconsin Law School, specializing in constitutional law and political theory. His research focuses on constitutional conflicts, court-packing controversies, and populist constitution-making in South America.

Braver’s work explores normative debates in constitutional history to establish principles for navigating legal boundaries. He has written for prominent legal journals and popular outlets like The Atlantic Monthly and The New York Times, with a current book project titled We, the Mediated People: Populist Constitution-making in Contemporary South America forthcoming from Oxford University Press.

His recent scholarship includes analysis of Supreme Court size changes and critiques of sedition charges. Prior to UW-Madison, Braver held fellowships at Tufts University and Harvard Law School. He actively engages with media on constitutional issues, including military deployments, exclusionary zoning, and judicial ethics.
