Josh Smith

Josh Smith is a Professor of Graphic Design at Asbury University, based in the McCreless Fine Arts Center. He holds an M.F.A. from the University of Kentucky (2012) and a B.A. from Wheaton College (1998). Additional studies include Werkplaats Typografie (2013) and an Artist-in-Residence in Dharamsala, India (2000).

His research interests focus on graphic design pedagogy, printmaking innovations, and contemporary art curation. Smith has exhibited work in prestigious venues including The New Museum of Contemporary Art (NYC), Cincinnati Art Book Fair, and London’s Whitechapel Book Fair. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and cross-cultural artistic practice.

Recent professional activities include juried and invitational exhibitions in New York, Kentucky, Texas, and internationally. He is represented by Zephyr Gallery in Louisville, KY, and maintains an active curatorial role in university and regional art initiatives.

Smith teaches courses such as Graphic Design 1 & 2, Printmaking, and Contemporary Art. His creative practice spans typography, mixed-media installations, and community-based art projects. He has held residencies and fellowships that inform his approach to merging academic rigor with creative experimentation.
