About
Joseph Valadez is a Professor of Global Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He holds a DSc in Population Sciences and Global Health from Harvard University and a PhD in International Politics from Lancaster University. His career includes roles at The World Bank as Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist for HIV/AIDS and Malaria programs, UNICEF in Rwanda post-genocide, and the African Medical and Research Foundation in Kenya. He pioneered the Lot Quality Assurance Sampling (LQAS) methodology, now globally used in health program evaluation and adapted for antimicrobial resistance surveillance (AMR-LQAS). Currently, he supports South Sudan's national health M&E systems and UNICEF's LQAS rollout in sub-Saharan Africa for community health initiatives.

Research focuses on rapid evaluation techniques, health system strengthening, and applying industrial quality control methods to global health. He has authored six books, including seminal works on LQAS and program evaluation. Current projects emphasize empowering local managers through accessible M&E tools and training materials for African and South Asian public health officers.
Recent work includes assessing Child Health Days and antimicrobial resistance patterns linked to parental antibiotic use in children under five. He collaborates with governments and UN agencies to enhance data-driven decision-making in crisis and post-crisis health systems.
