Professor Timothy Rutland Walsh DSc OBE is a Professor of Medical Microbiology at the University of Oxford. He serves as Director of Biology at the Ineos Oxford Institute of Antimicrobial Research (IOI), established in 2020. His research focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) mechanisms, including the impact of veterinary antimicrobial use on human health, AMR drivers across sectors, and global health challenges in low-middle income countries (LMICs). Specific interests include neonatal sepsis, stillbirths, and spatial-temporal analysis of AMR dynamics in LMICs.
His work spans South Asia, Africa, and China, emphasizing collaborative projects and capacity-building in these regions. He has published extensively in high-impact journals like Nature and The Lancet. Awards include the OBE for services to healthcare.
