Joseph Mercier

Dr. Joseph Mercier is Programme Lead for the MA Dance & Creative Enterprise and Lecturer in Dance at Northern School of Contemporary Dance. He holds a practice-based PhD in Dance, Performance and Queer Studies from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

His research explores choreographic processes, performance politics, and queer subcultures through interdisciplinary approaches bridging dance, live art, and theatre. Current projects investigate humor in educational contexts and embodied pedagogies.

Publications examine queer subjectivities in performance, with creative practice spanning movement direction, mentoring, and co-direction of performance company PanicLab. His work has been commissioned by venues including The Place and Dance City.
