Joseph Lauinger is a Professor of Literature at Sarah Lawrence College (SLC), where he has been teaching since 1988. He holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, an MA from Oxford University, and an MA and PhD from Princeton University.
His research interests span American literature, film, the history of drama, and classical literature. He has published fiction and poetry in journals such as Epoch, Lost Creek, Georgetown Review, Confrontation, and Pig Iron. His plays have been performed across the United States and internationally in the UK, Australia, and India. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild.
He has received the New York State Teacher of Excellence Award and a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. His undergraduate courses include Shakespeare and the Semiotics of Performance, and he has previously taught courses such as Interrogating God: Tragedy and Divinity and Theatre and the City.
