Jorge Manilla Navarrete is a Professor and Subject Area Coordinator at the Norwegian Academy of Fine Arts (Kunstakademiet i Oslo), specializing in Metal and Jewellery Art. He holds a PhD in Artistic Research from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp (pending dissertation) and has completed a Master’s in Jewellery and Silversmithing from St Lucas University College of Art and Design (2006), following a Bachelor’s in Sculpture from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent (2003). His academic lineage includes studies at Mexico’s Academy of San Carlos and the Mexican Institute of Fine Arts.
Manilla’s research explores themes such as religion, emotions, human relationships, and existential meaning through his jewellery art, particularly using black color symbolism to evoke mystery, introspection, and transformation. He is a globally active artist, having conducted workshops worldwide since 2010 and exhibited in major international venues like the International Biennial of Contemporary Jewellery (2019). His work is collected across five continents.
Recent professional highlights include lectures such as *“Here and Now, It Is Just Me!”* (2020) and exhibitions like *“Ephemeral Dreams/Consolidation”* (2019). As a coordinator, he oversees academic programs in metal and jewellery art while maintaining an international profile through artistic collaborations and pedagogical contributions.
