Jordan Brower is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Kentucky, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a joint PhD in English Literature and Film and Media Studies from Yale University (2016) and a B.A. from Amherst College (2007). His research bridges classical and contemporary Hollywood cinema with 20th-century American literature, particularly examining the studio system’s influence on modernist prose and Hollywood’s responses to modern crises. He has published widely in journals like Critical Inquiry, ELH, and James Joyce Quarterly, and co-edited The Cambridge Companion to American Literature and Film.
Recognized for his teaching, Brower received the College of Arts and Sciences' Excellence in Teaching Large Courses Award (2025) and the UK Alumni Association’s 'Great Teacher' designation (2024). He teaches ENG 280: Introduction to Film, emphasizing critical media literacy, and previously lectured at Harvard’s History and Literature program and Yale University. His current research explores contemporary Hollywood’s engagement with data breaches, technological shifts, and climate change, with work forthcoming in JCMS: The Journal of Cinema and Media Studies.
Brower’s scholarly interests include modernism, transmedial narratives, and the intersection of film and literature. His work spans historical analyses of the studio system to contemporary cultural critiques, reflecting a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches. He actively participates in the International Film Studies and Social Theory programs at UK.
