Joonho Bae is an Assistant Professor of Operations & Decision Technologies at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, having joined in 2025 after completing his Ph.D. in Technology and Operations at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan.
His educational background includes a B.S. in Statistics and Financial Economics from Seoul National University (2016) and an M.S. in Industrial & Systems Engineering from KAIST (2019).
Dr. Bae's research centers on developing mathematical models to understand, monitor, and control dynamic systems at the intersection of operations, marketing, and engineering. His recent work has focused on energy markets and sustainable storage/battery operations, demonstrating his commitment to addressing real-world challenges through interdisciplinary approaches. His research methodology combines rigorous mathematical modeling with practical business applications, creating bridges between theoretical frameworks and operational implementations.
Before his academic career, Dr. Bae co-founded and led ChamSonGil Cooperative, a startup for blind masseurs that expanded to 12 branches across South Korea, and worked as a full-time marketer at SK Telecom managing over 40 retail stores in Seoul. These practical experiences inform his research perspective and teaching approach.
