Professor Jonathan Unger is an eminent scholar at the Australian National University's Department of Political & Social Change, specializing in Chinese society and politics. With a PhD in Sociology (1978), he has researched rural development, labor migration, and social stratification in China for over four decades. He co-edits the prestigious China Journal and has conducted extensive fieldwork on poverty alleviation projects.
His current work examines the evolution of Chinese migrant factory workers' conditions across four decades, urbanization patterns, and family strategies. He has published 15 books and 70+ refereed papers on topics ranging from Cultural Revolution history to contemporary labor disputes.
