Jonathan Traviesa is Instructor of Photography at Tulane University's School of Liberal Arts, Department of Art. His practice documents social realities in New Orleans through portrait series, storm reportage, and conceptual installations.
His acclaimed 'Portraits: Photographs in New Orleans 1998-2009' project presents 100 resident portraits captured outside their homes, creating a collective city portrait. The work resulted in exhibitions at Ogden Museum of Southern Art and The Front gallery.
Traviesa's teaching covers technical foundations and conceptual development in black-and-white and digital photography. He received the inaugural Michael P. Smith Documentary Photography Grant from the New Orleans Photo Alliance.
