Jonathan Sterne

Dr. Jonathan Sterne is James McGill Professor of Culture and Technology at McGill University, specializing in sound studies, media historiography, and disability studies. His current SSHRC-funded project examines AI's impact on audiovisual media, particularly signal processing practices in large media corporations.

Research explores the politics of interfaces across sound, technology and disability. Notable books include 'Diminished Faculties' (impairment phenomenology) and 'MP3: The Meaning of a Format'. Teaching includes seminars on sound studies, historiography, and disability-technology intersections.
