Jonathan Seckl is a Professor at the University of Edinburgh, currently serving as Vice-Principal (Planning, Resources, Research Policy). His research spans molecular medicine, endocrinology, and neuroendocrinology, focusing on glucocorticoid hormone metabolism and its role in stress biology, obesity-diabetes-heart disease continuum, and neurodegeneration in aging.
His work includes proposing the glucocorticoid hypothesis of fetal programming and uncovering transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms. He has secured over £110 million in career funding from Wellcome Trust, MRC, EU, and BHF, and holds patents in cognitive aging and metabolic disease drug discovery.
