Jonathan Kaplan

Jonathan Kaplan is a Lecturer in Educational and Training Sciences at Lumière University (Lyon 2, France), affiliated with the Institute of Sciences and Practices of Education and Training (ISPEF). Previously held the position of Associate Professor at the same institution, he also conducts research at Éducation, Cultures & Politiques (ECP) research center and is an associate researcher at Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire en Neurosciences, Physiologie et Psychologie: Apprentissages, Activité Physique, Santé (LINP2-AAPS) at Paris Nanterre University. His work focuses on adult education, particularly the psychology of learning and self-regulation processes in both individual and collective contexts.

Research interests include the interplay between self-regulation strategies, learning environments, and cognition, with an emphasis on how Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) mediate these processes. Key areas of study involve cooperative learning, peer assessment, and the design of optimal learning environments like Study Circles. His work bridges social psychology and educational theory, examining agency through voluntary and autonomous action in open, technology-rich settings.

Publications span over 15 years, with recent contributions addressing learner autonomy in engineering education (2024), comparative studies of migrant learning needs (2016), and validation of the ERICA measurement tool for learning regulation (2017). His work has been presented globally, including invited lectures at UTAD (Portugal) and international conferences like LTEC and TECH-EDU.

Current research continues exploring ICT-mediated learning environments, with particular attention to how digital tools shape agency and motivation in adult learners. He maintains active collaborations across European institutions and contributes to policy discussions on adult education frameworks.
